Levon Schilling is currently installing an ICP-OES so that Vida-Blend will have the capability in-house to complete metals testing analysis without having to rely within the time frames of external laboratory constraints. He is also helping to develop proprietary methods using various instrumentation and laboratory equipment to give Vida-Blend the ability to test all materials coming into, and all finished products shipping out of, the production facility in Amsterdam, NY. This will guarantee that the customer receives the potency required for their label claim, and that the products quality is both accurate and assured.
Levon comes from years of chemistry work with an emphasis on learning each section that makes up a chemical based company perform successfully. From humble beginnings in 1998 of synthetic organic chemistry resulting in experimental active pharmaceutical ingredient research, followed by chemical development/scale-up, then process chemistry for production, Levon then went on to work in a cGMP analytical laboratory for a large, well-known pharmaceutical company for both analytical chemistry knowledge as well as exposure to a typical cGMP working environment. Then, after leading R&D improvement efforts for a small generics company, he found himself wanting to understand how actual production was conducted. Levon took a position as a production operator making liquid dose pharmaceuticals under cGMP conditions for human consumption with a major, world-wide generics company. This position also allowed him to be involved with the materials handling aspects of the plant, and learned the flow from how raw chemicals coming into the building became drugs on the market to help those that were ill. And all along the way of his career, he was exposed to many various analytical instruments that were not only used to obtain purification levels and compound identification, but needed to be installed, maintained, and when required repaired. Levon has been involved in many decision making and advising roles to help companies choose the best instrumentation to meet their specific needs and is familiar with most vendors of analytical instrumentation and what they offer.
All of this prior experience has been leading towards helping Vida-Blend get its laboratory completely functional and compliant; which is the current capacity Levon is fulfilling at Vida-Blend with an eye towards the future of being able to help in every way possible, the inevitable success that Vida-Blend will obtain as it grows into one of, if not the absolute, worlds most successful pre-mix, nutraceutical, and blending companies.
When he is not consumed with ways to improve the chemistry associated with a laboratory and its associated problems, Levon enjoys soccer with his teenage daughter, riding his motorcycles, and rebuilding/restoring an off-road pickup truck that was crushed by a wind-fell tree during the hurricane that affected Upstate New York in the late summer of 2011 with his father.
Helping to maintain and improve Vida-Blends quality control programs to the highest level of certification by implementing the FSSC 22000.
